What we do
Our first objective is to raise the money needed to buy the sculpture and secure its future in Morecambe. Once that is achieved we intend to promote further public arts and sculpture projects in Morecambe. So we shall remain a permanent body.
Why are we doing this? In the first instance because the artist, Shane Johnstone, who created and still owns Venus & Cupid needs to recoup the cost of the materials invested in the sculpture, and cannot afford to continue paying for the ongoing maintenance and licensing expenses. If we do not raise the money, the sculpture will be at risk of being removed.
And in the second place because we believe that further investment in public arts projects will prove a vital boost to the regeneration of the town – for locals as well as for visitors.
